Selection for Races
2025 National Games Selection Policy (updated on June 20, 2025)
Objectives:
The primary objective of this policy is to set out the criteria for selection, to ensure fairness, consistency and transparency in the selection process for TriHK to select capable and eligible athletes to represent the Hong Kong National Squad Team with the target to challenge for podium positions (1st, 2nd & 3rd position) in the individual and Mixed relay events at the 2025 National Games.
Eligibility:
- Nomination athletes must fulfil the below criteria:
- Is a current National Squad member
- Is a valid HKSAR passport and China entry permit holder
- Is 18 years old by 31 December 2025 for the individual event
- Is 16 years old by 31 December 2025 for the relay event
- Has achieved satisfactory results of a competitive enough standard or race recognized by TriHK
Nomination and Selection:
- A 6-person squad will be selected before the submission deadline 6th July 2025
- The squad will comprise of 3 Male and 3 Female athletes
- Athletes can be selected via the following:
Selection Event 1:
- 2025 Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship, Hong Kong
- 5th April 2025, Saturday
- 1 Male and 1 Female slot available
- First Hong Kong athlete across the line + Top 5 finish
- If the criteria are not reached the slot will become discretionary based on HKSFOC individual major games criteria
Selection Event 2:
- 2025 World Triathlon Cup Chengdu, China
- 10th May 2025, Saturday
- 1 Male and 1 Female slot available
- First Hong Kong athlete across the line + Top 20 finish + 5%
- If the criteria are not reached the slot will become discretionary based on HKSFOC individual major games criteria
Selection Event 3:
- 2025 National Championships Xuzhou, China
- 28-29th June 2025, Saturday & Sunday
- 1 Male and 1 Female slot available
- First Hong Kong athlete across the line + Top 20 finish + 5%
- If the criteria are not reached the slot will become discretionary based on HKSFOC individual major games criteria
Reserved Slot:
- 1 Male and 1 Female slot
- Any eligible athlete not selected via the above selection methods would be substituted if the selected athlete is not able to take part due to injury/physical/mental conditions
TriHK reserves the right, when and where necessary, to adjust the above policies and has the final discretion.
2025 World Triathlon Championships Wollongong, Australia (15-19 October)
Junior Selection Policy
(2 men and 2 women slots) (tentative number)
Objectives:
The primary objective of this policy is to set out the criteria for selection, to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in the selection process for TriHK to select capable and eligible athletes to represent Hong Kong, China with the target to challenge for the best result in the individual event at the captioned Championship.
Details & Criteria:
- Athletes must be born between (1 January 2006 - 31 December 2009) (Aged 16-19) to qualify and are current TriHK National Squad Members.
- Athlete must have sustainable outstanding results to be put on the start list for all events.
- Athlete must have positive attitude and demonstrate the professional manner in trainings and competitions.
- Athlete should contain a good communication and interpersonal skills with squad members.
- Athletes with any current (2025) disciplinary issues are not eligible for selection.
- The aim of team selection is to finish at Top 10 at the World Championships.
- Must be the selected athletes in 2025 Asia Triathlon Championships.
- Final event slot will be subject to World Triathlon criteria.
TriHK reserves the right to adjust the above criteria when and where necessary and has the final discretion.
Remarks:
- Training attendance, attitude or any positive impact to the team are all taking into TriHK consideration for the final decision.
- Final racing slot subjects to World Triathlon’s allocation, and such information is awaiting to be announced.

Details & Criteria:
- Athletes must be born between (1 January 2002 - 31 December 2007) (Aged 18-23) to qualify and are current TriHK National Squad Members.
- Athlete must have sustainable outstanding results to be put on the start list for all events.

The primary objective of this policy is to set out the criteria for selection, to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in the selection process for TriHK to select capable and eligible athletes to represent Hong Kong, China with the target to challenge for the best result in the individual event at the captioned Championship.

- Athletes must be born between (1 January 2006 - 31 December 2009) (Aged 16-19) to qualify and are current TriHK National Squad Members.
- Athlete must have sufficient results to be put on the start list for all events.
- The aim of team selection is to win medals at the Asian Championships.
- Athletes with any current (2025) disciplinary issues are not eligible for selection.
- Race Selection Slots:
- The first Junior Athlete of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 113 Series Sprint Triathlon Race - Putrajaya on 23rd February 2025
- The slot of number 2-3 will be selected from 2025 National Championships – Xuzhou.
- The slot of number 4-5 will be selected from 2025 Summer Challenge, Hong Kong.
6. One discretionary slot reserved by Selection Committee for athletes who have achieved and fulfilled athletes’ obligation.
7. Final event slot will be subject to World Triathlon criteria.

- The athlete with the best combination of TriHK recognized 2024 race results

2025 Asia Triathlon U23 Championships Aqaba, Jordan

- The first U23 athlete of Hong Kong cross the finish line in the Asia Triathlon Cup Taizhou on 14th June 2025.
- The first 2 athletes of Hong Kong cross the finish line in the National Triathlon Championships (U19) Xuzhou on 28th June 2025.
- The first U23 athlete of Hong Kong cross the finish line in the Asia Triathlon Cup Yilan on 26th September 2025.
6. One discretionary slot reserved by Selection Committee for athletes who have achieved and fulfilled athletes' obligation.
7. Final event slot will be subject to World Triathlon criteria.
Reserve Slot:
- 1 male and 1 female slot
- Any eligible athlete not selected via the above selection methods
- The athlete with the best combination of TriHK recognized 2024 race results

2025 Asia Triathlon U15 Championships (Aged 13-15)
Selection Policy
(4 men and 4 women slots)
Objectives:
The primary objective of this policy is to set out the criteria for selection, to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in the selection process for TriHK to select capable and eligible athletes to represent Hong Kong, China with the target to challenge for the best result in the individual event at the captioned Championship.
Details & Criteria:
1. Athletes must be born between (1 January 2010 - 31 December 2012) to qualify and are current TriHK National Squad Members.
2. Athlete must have sufficient results to be put on the start list for all events.
3. The aim of team selection is to win medals at the Asian Championships.
4. Athletes with any current (2025) disciplinary issues are not eligible for selection.
5. Race Selection Slots:
• The first U15 Men and first U15 Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships (Elite Youth) on 6th April 2025.
• The first 2 U15 Men and First 2 U15 Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Kampar (U15) on 19th-20th July 2025.
• The first Youth Men and first Youth Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 Hong Kong Summer Triathlon Challenge (Elite Youth) on 3rd August 2025.
6. If the criteria are not reached the slot will become discretionary based on TriHK.
7. Final event slot will be subject to World Triathlon criteria.

2025 Asia Triathlon Youth Championships (Aged 16-17)
Selection Policy
(4 men and 4 women slots)
Objectives:
The primary objective of this policy is to set out the criteria for selection, to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in the selection process for TriHK to select capable and eligible athletes to represent Hong Kong, China with the target to challenge for the best result in the individual event at the captioned Championship.
Details & Criteria:
1. Athletes must be born between (1 January 2008 - 31 December 2009) to qualify and are current TriHK National Squad Members.
2. Athlete must have sufficient results to be put on the start list for all events.
3. The aim of team selection is to win medals at the Asian Championships.
4. Athletes with any current (2025) disciplinary issues are not eligible for selection.
5. Race Selection Slots:
• The first Youth Men and first Youth Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships (Elite Junior) – Hong Kong on 6th April 2025.
• The first 2 Youth Men and 2 Youth Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 National Triathlon Championships (U19) Jiangsu on 28th-29th June 2025.
• The first Youth Men and first Youth Women of Hong Kong athletes cross the finish line in the 2025 Hong Kong Summer Triathlon Challenge (Elite Junior) on 3rd August 2025.
6. If the criteria are not reached the slot will become discretionary based on TriHK.
